R. Hexel told me that /usr/pkgsrc shouldn't be under /usr/pkg -- it can anywhere else. Moved /usr/pkg/pkgsrc to /usr/local -- it took 91 minutes.

The gtk.h buildlink was correct. Then it died because missing gdk_imlib.h. graphics/imlib was installed -- or was it? I pkg_delete'd it and it reported that several (all?) files were missing:

pkg_delete: file `/usr/X11R6/include/gdk_imlib.h' doesn't really exist

So I did another "make clean" under x11/gnome-libs and then tried again. imlib was rebuilt and installed. 18 minutes later it was all built.

So now to try the gimp again. 48 minutes later I had six gimp packages installed!
