FreeBSD's burncd didn't work with my MATSHITA CD-RW CW-7586/1.01. (Sorry, lost log message.) So added the following to my kernel configuration:

device         atapica

And then my new kernel booted with "cd0" and "cd1" instead of just acd0/acd1. Then I could use cdrecord with the SCSI CD-ROM support.
