Installed old Red Hat 7.2 (2001) for some Samsung Contact testing. Its old Linux kernel failed at boot time and stopped at

mxt_scan_bios: enter

The fix was to disable APM in the BIOS. That "mxt" code was later removed from kernel (according to Red Hat Bug 66215).
